Last week I had the privilege, along with several of my colleagues, of participating in my first “Done-in-a-Day” project at Standing. “Done-in-a-Day’ projects enable Standing employees to participate in organized volunteer opportunities during business hours (when appropriate, of course). We spent a Friday afternoon sorting, boxing and repackaging food at the St. Louis Area Foodbank, an organization that distributed more than 22 million pounds of food to families, seniors and children in counties surrounding St. Louis last year.
Unbelievably, about 57,000 people depend on food assistance provided by the St. Louis Area Foodbank each week. In just a few short hours, our team of volunteers was able to pack nearly 4,000 lbs. of food, which will help provide meals to over three thousand individuals in our area.

There are many ways to help, and if you decide to do so, I guarantee your perspective on the existing needs in your community will be broadened. Oh, and you’ll have fun, too.
