In October 2011, Standing Partnership will begin celebrating our 20th anniversary. Earlier this year I had the opportunity to give a speech on lessons I've learned in 20 years of entrepreneurship as part of the St. Louis RCGA's Breakfast with the Gazelles series. In working to develop an entertaining and engaging speech, I framed the business lessons I shared through the lens of my favorite hobby - playing ice hockey on a recreational women's team. I agree with Maggie. Standing is a great place to work, and part of that is because our team has the ability to explore our passion areas, both at work and after hours!

I definitely think that breaking away from the office to pursue personal passions is vital to overall work performance. I love to travel, and I’m so grateful to work for a company that allows me to take some time away every now and then to refresh and feed my soul.

So glad you are sharing your speech with our blog readers, Cathy! I agree that cultivating passions outside of work can help you perform better at work. I enjoy yoga and Zumba, and I find that working out clears my head and improves my outlook, which then rubs off on my work day.
