Happy National Working Parents Day!

Tomorrow is National Working Parents Day, and though I could celebrate this day by giving myself and many of my co-workers pats on the back (which is, by no means, undue), I'd like instead to take this time to thank the people behind the scenes that make this day possible: the employers and fellow staff members who make maternity/paternity leaves possible, who make casseroles and bring them to your house after your baby is born (yes, that happens here!), who understand when you're running late due to an unexpected delay at the sitter/doctor's office/you name it. Between July 2010 and July 2011, Standing Partnership and its incredible staff supported three maternity leaves, one paternity leave and FIVE new babies! They made and delivered more than 30 casseroles or other freezer dishes. They playfully laid bets on due dates, threw showers for each new mama and papa, oohed and aahed over baby photos, and were genuinely sympathetic when one (or all) of us newbie parents were operating on minimal (yawn) sleep. Happy National Working Parents Day, Standing Partnership! And, congratulations all you working moms and dads!

I will be forever grateful to all of the Standing employees for their support during our crazy, sleep-deprived first few months as parents. From filling our freezer with meals to accommodating a paternity leave so Nick could bond with the babies, it was all wonderful. Thank you again!

Not only does Standing show support for their new moms & dads, but they also cheerfully support employees who have become new grandparents as well.  I recently became a grandma for the first time and Standing allowed me the flexibility to “float” a few days of PTO so I could be available to help my son & daughter-in-law with the new baby.  What a special gift it was to be able to spend time with my new grandson while he was so small!

I just wanted to chime in and mention that the flextime benefits also lets those of us with school-age children attend occasional school parties, get them off the bus one day a week or even take a summer sabbatical to spend quality time with them. (Seven years of service required! : ) ) Let’s hear it for BALANCE!
