Here’s Some Good-For-You Food News!

By: Mary Phelan | 09/06/2011

Many health care professionals draw clear links between our society spending time on technology-based activities instead of physical ones and growing rates of obesity-related diseases. While this is troubling, we should also note that technological advances have also given us a wealth of health care information at our fingertips.

For instance, I recently I welcomed seeing some good news advice for staying heart-healthy.  The Health Central site provides some yummy tips for better eating to help control LDL, the "bad" cholesterol and boost HDL, the "good" cholesterol that supports heart health.

We've probably all heard about this before, but by using an enhanced mini-slide show, Health Central emphasizes the good news with luscious photos and list upon list of HDL enhancing foods.  It's enough to make your mouth water and immediately ditch the bag of chips in favor of such goodies as nuts, avocados, tuna, salmon, trout, leafy green veggies, eggs, mushrooms, legumes, chicken, beef and YES, even dark chocolate (70 percent cocoa or more).

All things in moderation, of course, including any alcohol intake.  But hey, the food news is good!  Check it out - your heart will love it.
