Before your company launches a blog, read Robert Scoble's Corporate Weblog Manifesto. Don't worry -- it's just a list of 20 items if you read the original document online. Read the updated version in Naked Conversations (p. 191 if you're browsing at the bookstore ((just BUY the book)), where there are 34. My point? It's not War and Peace. You can do it.
Also, if your organization feels like maybe it's too soon -- allow me to note that Scoble wrote it in 2003 -- four years ago.
A former colleague recently e-mailed me a series of questions about starting a blog for her firm, mostly regarding infrastructure, policies, procedures, etc. I told her we'd be happy to help when her organization is ready to make the leap.
The reply, which made me smile, was this: "Square wheels only roll so fast." We'll be waiting.
