On Tuesday, the New York Times launched its social network, TimesPeople. While users can have friends and join groups, I see it more as the socialization of a traditional news Web site than a brand-spankin'-new New York Times social network. The interface is nice and user-friendly, and incorporates some features similar to Digg, Facebook and FriendFeed. However, it appears as though the Times is simply catching up with the rest of the news media that has gone digital. What do you think? Is this a giant leap of social networking, or just another example of a struggling newspaper attempting to salvage its readership by any means necessary?
