Hello. My name is Christi, and I'm a reality TV junkie. It's not all trashy. It's inspiring, riveting and oddly redemptive. (Yesterday's Biggest Loser brought me to tears.) And, it's helping my career and clients. Really. I'll bet you this 12-year-old will end up as a guest on American Idol, another one of my faves. Or Celebrity Fit Club, if he makes poor choices. Now I have to disclaim that I originally searched for this at my daughter's request--but the strategic communications takeaways are here, too. (Watch the video clip below to see what I mean!)
1. YouTube is one of the most powerful forces on the planet.
2. Social media can build (or break) a reputation before you ever have one.
3. Greyson Chance is the perfect stage name. Kudos to his parents for that one.
4. For all of you who think the big check is dead, think again!
What else do YOU get from this? I'm all ears ... it'll give me a reason to keep the DVR running!

So have you followed the dueling talents of Sam Tsui, Kurt and Jake on YouTube? They’re capitalizing on pop songs, Glee and cultural trends to decide on their next posts and engage followers… they are now on iTunes with an album of covers. I’m hooked.

Great insight, Christi. Another interesting strategic communication takeaway is that the Greyson Chance phenomenon incorporates a perfect storm of media that proves that both traditional and “new” media have a place in creating a huge story.
1. The video was initially posted on YouTube
2. Greyson became a trending topic on Twitter
3. Those led to his appearance on TV (Ellen)
4. Now, he has a record contract which will presumably lead to his music being released on both iTunes and a CD.
