Yesterday, my colleague, Beth, wrote a post about National Health Center Week,
but did you know that this week is also National
Farmers' Market Week? As an agency that specializes in agriculture and
nutrition as well as health care, we couldn't let this week pass us by without posting about it!
Farmers' markets in the U.S. have risen from 6,132 in 2010 to 7,175 in 2011 (USDA National Farmers Market Directory). Have you noticed an increase in farmers' markets in your neighborhood? I certainly have.
In St. Louis, several local farmers' markets are planning to celebrate National Farmers' Market week. For a list of local farmers' market events in our area, check out River Front Times' blog post. And, if you're not sure where to find a farmers' market in your neighborhood, the USDA has launched a tool to help you find one near your home.
How do you plan to celebrate National Farmers' Market Week? I hope to visit the local farmers' market near my house to pick up ingredients to make one of my favorite summer recipes, gazpacho.

I’ll be stopping by the Kirkwood Farmers Market. In addition to fresh fruits and veggies, vendors there also sell bbq ribs, kettle corn, kabobs and snowcones. Yum!

My local market is Tower Grove Farmer’s Market in South City. Not only are there a lot of great vendors, but I love the music and general atmosphere!
