Social Media, In Real Life and Bacon

Earlier this month, my colleague Marijean, wrote a blog post about the importance of In Real Life interaction. One of my favorite comedians, Jim Gaffigan, must be reading our blog, or he is just really smart.

Because I enjoy his style comedy, which is clean and many times food-focused (yes, I love me some bippity-boppity-bacon), I signed up as a fan on Gaffigan's Facebook page. I enjoy many of the perks his page has to offer, including clips of his new special that airs Sunday on Comedy Central. I must say, because of the teasers, I'll be enjoying a Hot Pocket as I'm parked in front of the TV watching it.

While Gaffigan has been very good at driving his fan base with the use of social media, I'm even more floored at how he engages them at his live shows. After each show, he holds a meet and greet with anyone and everyone who wants to stick around after the show. My husband and I waited about an hour to visit with him after his St. Louis stop last September. He's a great and funny guy that really appreciates his fans.

Think you don't know Gaffigan? Chances are you're wrong. He and Conan O'Brien co-created "Pale Force," which aired on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and can still be watched on NBC.com. He also stars on the TBS show "My Boys."

Kudos to Gaffigan for successfully integrating social media and In Real Life interaction, while keeping me laughing at bacon, bologna and Hot Pockets.

Mmmm… I’m now craving bacon. Seriously, though, it’s nice to know that there are still some celebrity types that appreciate In Real Life interactions. On the other hand, you can’t blame celebs from using the paparazzi as a reason to hole up and keep to Tweeting.
