STANDING for Our Communities: We Give Back

Just one part of what's special about our team at Standing Partnership is every person's excitement about giving back to our communities. The commitment began with the firm's founding in 1991, but I admit I was blown away recently when a team member pointed out that we have helped nearly 50 civic and charitable organizations as community partners to date.

Just before our company's 10th birthday, we formalized the partnership selection process. Now, we select several nonprofit organizations annually and commit to share our time, dollars and expertise. We value these community partners and treat them as if they were full-paying clients.

This year's St. Louis partners are:

Virginia office partners are:

Our partnerships vary:

  • Some of our projects are “done in a day,” such as the Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition's fundraising kickball tournament. The Standing team won two games and raised money for a great cause!

  • Other projects bring together a full Standing “client” team to handle a short-term consulting assignment, manage a branding effort, develop a social media strategy, or oversee a longer-term media relations training and outreach program.

  • Some support takes the form of direct financial contributions or sponsorships of partner events.

  • Some long-term nonprofit Standing clients have also been our community partners … when we have believed in their mission and decided to provide additional services to help accomplish important goals. Sometimes there just aren't the resources to do everything.

Anyone who doesn't believe one person – or a small company – can make a big difference, you may be surprised how wrong that idea is.

We highlight our community partnerships on our Web site, and I encourage you to nominate your favorite charity this November when we will vote as a group on our partners for next year!

How about considering St. Louis Public Schools effort to recruit families into the city schools’ Parents as Teachers program? Talk about a localized community effort that could have long-term benefits for the community! This could really tap Standing PR’s expertise at reaching targeted audiences through unconventional means.

As a representative of one of the beneficiary organizations (The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis), I can attest to the rigor and professionalism of The Standing Partnership’s commitment.  There are times when “pro bono” consultation is worth just about what you pay for it… We have not found that to be the case with Standing Partnership.  While our project has not concluded, we have already learned a great deal from the process.  Thoughtful expertise is quite a gift.

Pat ... We have added the Parents as Teachers program for the St. Louis Public Schools to our 2009 nomination list for our team voting in November.  We have enjoyed working with Parents as Teachers for several years, and agree with you that this particular program would have major positive community impact.  Thanks for the idea!
Faith ... Thanks for the kind words!  Our team is truly enjoying our work with the Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis and feel we can help make a difference in your group’s positive impact, too.

I would like to commend Standing Partnership for their leadership in making a difference in their communities!  We have been fortunate to have Marijean work with our company, and to watch her share her knowledge with our broader nonprofit community through seminars and consulting services.  She is a pro!
I would like to suggest the Center for Nonprofit Excellence as a possible community partner for the upcoming year.  We are a new organization (under 2 years) but we serve more than 200 area nonprofits/businesses directly through their memberships and more than 1,000 people weekly through our e-newlsetter and website.
Working with the CNE would benefit hundreds of organizations that impact thousands of people in our community.

I’m going to throw in the hat of Childgarden Child Development Center (in the easternmost part of the CWE) for consideration: our kiddo just started attending daycare there, and we were drawn by its mission of integrating children who need therapeutic services of various kinds (physical, speech, behavioral) and “just-plain kids,” as I call ‘em. It’s a feel-good kind of place, full of incredibly dedicated professionals, and I know they could use Standing Partnership’s expertise in letting more folks know about their admirable mission and daily triumphs with the littlest St. Louisans! So many more need to know.

Please consider working with Computers4Kids!  We are a nonprofit after-school technology mentoring program for low-income middle and high school youth living in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area.  Our students take advantage of access to an independent learning lab, educational workshops, one-on-one mentoring, and access to a home computer… all free of charge!  Computers4Kids’ innovative programming has been recognized locally and throughout the state.  We are looking for new and creative ways to present our message, particularly since we rely tremendously on the dedicated efforts of volunteer mentors recruited from the community, and the generosity of individuals who donate computer equipment that is refurbished and given out to our students.
