As a business minor at the University of Missouri, I heard the words “corporate culture” in lecture after lecture, but my summer internship at Standing Partnership is the first time I’ve really been immersed in one. Luckily, experiencing corporate culture first-hand is a lot more exciting than answering essay questions about it.
Here are five fabulous examples of what I’ve already experienced this summer:
1. Standing manager Christi Dixon hosted a wine-tasting at Nobleis Vineyards. Several of my colleagues and their spouses attended this private session where we shared snacks and wine, took a walk through the vineyards and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Augusta, Mo.
2. I wasn’t sure what to expect at my first company retreat, but luckily Standing’s culture team created an engaging experience that included field trips to visit our clients. Everyone attended a trip in a focus area they don’t work in frequently, making it an eye-opening experience that gave us all a better appreciation for both our colleagues and our clients.
3. When I mentioned to Jenny Rausch that I was interested in reading a certain book series, she told me the books had been going around the office for months and brought me the first one the next day. Ten books later, I have my Standing coworkers to thank for my newest obsession.
4. I was thrilled to discover that Standing Partnership is an office full of animal lovers. That passion shows in our office – where we boast clients like The St. Louis PetLover’s Coalition and team members who devote their time to animal-related board memberships, extra-curricular activities and volunteer work.
5. Summer is a special season – it’s meant to be enjoyed outside. Standing Partnership recognizes this with a special Summer Fridays schedule, where we work a few extra hours Monday through Thursday so we can leave Friday at noon and get the most out of our summer.
What traditions and quirks make your office unique? Do you have any special summer traditions? Let us know!

Thank you for your response, Kristin! I feel very fortunate to have had these excellent experiences, and I’m only at the mid-way mark of my internship!

Great post, Ashlyn! Your five examples are fabulous indeed, and speak volumes about how progressive, thoughtful and cohesive your company is and how much you gelled with your colleagues. How wonderful you got to experience something that, in these times, is very rare - a rewarding and personable internship. I think your future employers have their work cut out for them if they’re to match such a great experience!
Best of luck to you!
