When Cathy Dunkin and her sister started Standing Partnership 17 years ago, a small sign hung on their office wall. It was a vintage sign from the War Production C0-ordinating Committee featuring Rosie the Riveter and proclaiming, "We Can Do It!"
Cathy told me about that sign and how in the early days of Standing Partnership, that motto helped the sisters build the business into the robust, professional organization it is today.
In 2006 I moved to Charlottesville and have since established the east coast presence of the firm. At times, business is so busy it causes us to take a moment and say, "How will we get it all done?" The answer hangs right on the wall of my office today, a much larger poster-sized replica of the original inspiring sign that hung in Standing's first office. "We can do it!" I hear myself say to team members, to clients and to the world.
It's a bit of visual encouragement, Rosie with her long eyelashes, polka-dot headscarf and girlish bicep, that makes me smile and keeps me going strong.
The connection of that same motto present at the beginning of the firm and to the office in St. Louis makes me smile as well, and makes me feel closer to the people in the home office who, every day, get it done.
