What We’re Reading: Jan. 17-21

This week at Standing Partnership, many of the stories we read centered on agriculture and nutrition. Below is a list of a few we found most interesting.

1.       Consistent and cohesive messaging is important to consumers, especially when it comes to food. Center for Food Integrity (CFI) released results of a study concluding that clear communication of values such as, truth, responsibility and fairness, is vital to developing a platform of trust in the food system.

2.       Wal-Mart, with the support of First Lady Michelle Obama, announced a plan to make the food they sell more nutritious. The new strategy includes reducing sodium and sugar in some foods, lowering produce prices and developing a logo that will make the new, healthier foods easier to identify.

3.       This article provides an interesting commentary about a common concern within agriculture-who will farm in the future?

4.       USDA announced this week that it will join the National FFA Organization in an initiative to further prepare young people in their pursuit of agriculture careers.
