The other day a client asked, "Is Twitter more heavily male-dominated? Because it seems like it is." I didn't know, at the time, but vowed to find out.

What I learned from Quantcast is that the Twitter demographics are just a little bit surprising. We've known for a while that women are dominating Facebook, but they're edging up over men on Twitter now as well.

Age stats are more or less where you'd expect them to be -- main users are in the 18-34 bracket. But wait! Look at this: the 35-49 range is right behind with 30 percent of users, and the over-50 crowd, at 19 percent, is nothing to sneeze at either.
In a statistic that is closely related to age, household income results say that the less affluent are on Twitter. This is not surprising when aligned with the primary age range, who are still in the early stages of their careers.
What do you think of these results? Do they match with your experience of who is on Twitter?
