ST. LOUIS (June 24, 2009) - St. Louis-based National Center for Parents as Teachers has elected and appointed Donald Roberts to its board of directors. Parents as Teachers is an award-winning parent education and early childhood development program serving parents throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten. The National Center for Parents as Teachers board of directors meets three times a year to oversee the direction and continuous expansion of approximately 3,000 programs offering Parents as Teachers services nationwide.
Roberts has 30 years of experience in progressive financial management, and is presently serving as vice president and chief financial officer of Mississippi Lime Company. He has held similar roles with IMC Agribusiness, Inc. and Big River Minerals Corporation. Roberts also works with and has served on the board of directors for many reputable nonprofit groups including Make-A-Wish Foundation, Good Shepherd School for Children and the Neurofibromatosis Foundation. He holds a degree in accounting from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is a certified public accountant.
For more than 25 years, the National Center for Parents as Teachers has helped parents embrace their role as their child's first and best teacher. The National Center supports Parents as Teachers programs through training, research and program support. Over the past 25 years, Parents as Teachers has grown to include home visits, group meetings with other families, developmental and health screenings, and connections to community resources. The 25th anniversary campaign, highlighted at http://www.parentsasteachers25.org, will help expand services to more families, and ultimately, prepare future generations for school success.
