U.S. Figure Skating ChampionshipsThe U.S. Figure Skating Championships is the premier event conducted each year by U.S. Figure Skating, featuring more than 250 skaters competing for national titles in three divisions (senior, junior and novice). In January 2006, St. Louis played host to this prestigious event, which also served as the Olympic trials for the U.S. Figure Skating Team. Westminster College and the Churchill Memorial Museum and LibraryIn March of 2006, the Churchill Memorial Museum and Library marked the 60th Anniversary of Winston Churchill’s “Iron Curtain” speech delivered on the campus of Westminster College with the re-birth and re-dedication of the Museum, providing an interactive venture into the life and times of Winston Churchill for all generations. St. Louis Children’s HospitalNamed one of the 10 Best Pediatric Hospitals in the nation for the second consecutive year, St. Louis Children's Hospital is one of the premier children's hospitals in the United States, providing a full range of pediatric services to the St. Louis metropolitan area and a primary service region covering six states. MySciThe MySci program gives early elementary students all over St. Louis the chance to study science through inquiry by providing curriculum books and classroom kits in plants, animals, and the earth. The Black RepThe St. Louis Black Repertory Company is the largest African-American performing arts organization in Missouri and one of the five largest African-American companies in the country. The Black Rep features a full season of professional performances at the St. Louis Grandel Theatre and other venues in the region. Family Support NetworkSince 1982, Family Support Network has been the catalyst for strengthening families through cost-free in-home, in-school, and shelter-based counseling in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and Jefferson County. RebosRebos is a safe haven for St. Louis teenagers to practice the principles of sobriety, learn real life skills and academic independence in a safe, sober, and emotionally supportive environment. Our Little HavenHoused at their three building campus, Our Little Haven provides love and care for 60-80 babies and children annually from birth through seven years of age who have been abused, neglected or affected by drugs. The American Cancer SocietyThe American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community- based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service. Old Newsboys DayA St. Louis tradition for over 75 years, volunteers take to the streets each November to sell a special edition of the Suburban Journal with proceeds going to help more than 250 area children’s charities, raising close to $9 million over the years. KWMUAt 90.7 on the FM radio dial, KWMU provides in-depth news, intelligent talk and entertainment that enrich the civic and cultural life of communities comprising 2.4 million people. Film Action OregonA supporter of independent film in Oregon for the past 14 years, Film Action Oregon focuses its efforts on three main initiatives: educating young filmmakers on the craft; partnering with independent filmmakers to produce new works for the big screen; and showing independent, foreign and classic films at the historic Hollywood Theatre. The organization is also dedicated to preserving the Hollywood Theatre which has served a Portland landmark since 1926. Girls Inc.Girls Inc. is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold. The St. Louis chapter of Girls Inc. is devoted to providing fun, safe and extensive programming for girls between the ages of four and 18 to encourage them to take risks and master physical, intellectual and emotional challenges. Through its centers and outreach sites, Girls Inc. of St. Louis aims to serve nearly 15,000 girls and young women annually in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. KidSmartKidSmart works to ensure that children and classrooms in the Greater Metropolitan St. Louis Area have the basic tools for learning by collecting and transferring, at no cost, the community's surplus supplies and merchandise into the hands of teachers. Serving the neediest students in the Greater Metropolitan St. Louis Area, KidSmart's goal is to distribute $1 million in free school supplies and learning materials each year. Fair Saint Louis/Celebrate St. Louis...LIVE on the LeveeSince 1981, Fair Saint Louis has attracted hundreds of thousands of people to St. Louis during the July 4th holiday with live music, entertainment, delicious food and magnificent fireworks. As part of a continued downtown renaissance, Fair Saint Louis and Celebrate St. Louis recently merged in order to expand St. Louis' free summer music festival. This summer, the newly combined entity offered a free, six-weekend summer concert series with nightly fireworks on the St. Louis riverfront.
